Black currant oil is a seed oil that comes with its own built-in acronym: GLA.
Gamma-linolenic acid, if you want to say the whole thing, which nobody does, because GLA fits better in conversation and also on a bottle label that already has a lot going on. Nature's Life presses this stuff from actual black currant seeds and puts it in a softgel, which is a nice way of saying "you don't have to taste it." Black currants themselves are tart little berries that grow mostly overseas, mostly in places that get a lot of rain, and none of that matters once the oil is in a capsule, but I thought you should know where it came from. Every berry has a backstory.
What This Oil Is Actually Doing
GLA is an omega-6 fatty acid, and your body doesn't make a ton of it on its own, so getting some through diet or a softgel is the whole point here. This formula supports skin health from the inside, which is a strange sentence if you think about it too long, but that's how nutrients work. It also supports joint comfort and mobility, promotes a healthy inflammatory response, and contributes to cardiovascular wellness as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. None of that happens overnight. Fatty acids are patient. They're not going to show up and fix your day. They show up over weeks, quietly, like a roommate who does the dishes without saying anything.
- Supports skin health and hydration from within
- Supports joint comfort and healthy mobility
- Promotes a healthy inflammatory response
- Contributes to cardiovascular wellness
- Provides GLA, an omega-6 fatty acid the body needs but underproduces
The Softgel Situation
Ninety softgels per bottle, which is either three months of once-a-day or one very committed month if you're taking three a day, and I'm not going to do that math for you because it depends on your label, and I'm a copywriter, not your pharmacist. The softgel format exists so you don't have to know what black currant oil tastes like. That's not a knock on black currants. It's a knock on swallowing oil straight, which nobody enjoys, including people who enjoy olive oil on bread, because that's a different situation entirely.
Why "Health from the Sun"
That's the line name, and it's doing some heavy lifting, because black currants grow in bushes, in dirt, generally away from direct sun exposure once they're picked and pressed into oil. But sure, the sun was involved at some point. The sun's involved in most things. I'm not going to argue with a plant's origin story. This is a daily wellness product for people who want a straightforward source of GLA without eating a garden's worth of currants, and that's a reasonable thing to want.
Take it as part of a normal routine, alongside a decent diet and the occasional walk, and let the fatty acids do their slow, unglamorous work.
