Twenty four ounces of brahmi-infused sesame oil, enough to anoint an entire household and have some left over for the dog. That's not a dosage suggestion, that's just math. This is Banyan Botanicals' organic Brahmi Oil, made by steeping brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) into pure sesame oil until the oil basically forgets it used to be plain.
What It Actually Is
Sesame oil is one of those ingredients that shows up in a recipe and you think "oh, that's just the thing that holds the other things together." Then you find out it's been used in Ayurvedic practice for thousands of years as a base for head oils, and you feel a little bad for underestimating it. Brahmi has a long traditional history in Ayurveda, where it's applied to the scalp as part of a daily or weekly self care ritual, not swallowed, not sprinkled on toast. You massage it in. That's the whole instruction. Rub oil on head. It's one of the few product instructions in the world that doesn't require a diagram.
Supports, In The Honest Sense Of The Word
- Supports a healthy, nourished scalp with regular massage
- Nourishes hair from root to end, the sesame oil doing the heavy lifting
- Traditionally used in Ayurveda to support cognitive function and mental clarity
- Promotes a calm, relaxed mood, especially when used as part of an evening wind-down routine
- Supports restful sleep when massaged into the scalp before bed
None of that is a promise that it'll fix your week. It's a nightly ritual, not a miracle, and the brand isn't claiming otherwise. What it does is give you a reason to sit still for ten minutes and touch your own head, which, it turns out, most of us never do unless we're checking for a sunburn.
Organic, Because The Label Says So And Means It
The sesame oil base is organic. The brahmi is processed into it the traditional way, slow infusion, not some flash-extraction shortcut. It smells earthy, a little nutty, like something your grandmother would have approved of even if she never used the word "Ayurvedic" in her life.
How To Use It
Warm a small amount between your palms, massage into the scalp and hair, leave it in for at least twenty minutes (longer if you're the patient type, or overnight if you don't mind your pillowcase joining the ritual too), then wash out with a gentle shampoo. The 24 ounce size means you're not rationing drops like it's saffron. Use it like it's sesame oil, because it is.
Ingredients
Ingredients: Sesame seed oil (Sesamum indicum), Gotu Kola aerials (Centella asiatica), Bacopa aerials (Bacopa monnieri)
Directions: For external use only. If preferred, apply only to hair and scalp and massage gently until mostly absorbed. Or for full body massage: warm oil if desired, massage into whole body with firm gentle pressure working from hands and feet toward heart using long strokes on limbs and circular strokes on joints. Let absorb for 10–20 minutes, then shower to rinse.
Warnings
For external use only. All oils make surfaces slippery and can be combustible. Use caution when drying or storing linens exposed to oils as they are potentially combustible when exposed to heat. Consult dryer manufacturer's guidelines for drying linens that have been in contact with oils.
