Gan Jiang is just dried ginger, the way your grandmother would recognize it, minus the sulfur treatment most dried ginger gets to look prettier on a shelf.
This is MayWay's Plum Flower version, unsulfured, which means it skipped the step where they bleach it into looking like something off a magazine cover. It looks like ginger. It tastes like ginger. It is, as far as we can tell, ginger. That's the whole pitch, and honestly it's a good one. Traditional Chinese herbal practice has used dried ginger rhizome for a long time as a warming digestive support herb, and this batch keeps that tradition intact by not messing with the processing. (Sulfur is used to keep herbs looking bright and shelf-stable. It also means you're adding sulfur to your ginger, which, if you think about it for one second longer than you're supposed to, is a strange trade to make for the sake of color.)
Unsulfured herbs tend to look a little more rustic. A little more "yes, this came from the ground." That's not a flaw. That's the point.
What Gan Jiang Is Used For
- Supports digestive comfort and healthy digestive function
- Promotes a healthy inflammatory response
- Supports normal circulation and a healthy sense of internal warmth
- Traditionally used in herbal formulations to support overall wellness
- Contributes to daily wellness routines rooted in traditional practice
This is a raw herb, sold in its traditional dried form, the way practitioners have worked with it for centuries. It's meant to be incorporated into formulas or preparations the way your practitioner or your own research directs. We're not going to tell you it cures anything, because it doesn't cure anything, it's ginger. It's dried ginger root that supports healthy digestive function and a normal, healthy inflammatory response, and it does that job the same unfussy way it's done it for a very long time.
Why Unsulfured Matters
Sulfur fumigation is common in the bulk herb trade because it slows spoilage and keeps color consistent. MayWay skips it here. That means the color can vary batch to batch (it's a plant, not a crayon), and it means what you're getting is closer to the herb as it existed before anyone decided it needed to look nicer for retail. If you've been searching for a clean-label, minimally processed dried ginger for traditional formula work, this is that herb, unsulfured, unbothered, and about as straightforward as a rhizome gets.
