Pao Jiang is ginger that got roasted twice, and it never once complained.

Most ginger you know shows up sliced thin next to your sushi, doing basically nothing except sitting there being pink and vaguely spicy. Pao Jiang is a different animal. It is dried ginger root that gets processed further, traditionally stir fried or blast fired until it darkens and toughens up, the kind of root that has clearly been through something. This is MayWay's Plum Flower version, and it is unsulfured, which means nobody bleached it to make it look prettier on a shelf. It looks like what it is. That is the whole pitch, honestly, and it is a good one.

What Unsulfured Actually Means Here

A lot of dried herbs get treated with sulfur dioxide to keep the color bright and the shelf life long. It works, but it also means you are eating a preservative you did not ask for. This Pao Jiang skips that step entirely. The color is deeper, sometimes almost black at the edges, because that is just what happens to ginger when you roast it properly instead of chemically babysitting it. If you have ever wondered why some dried ginger looks suspiciously yellow, this is the ginger that did not do that.

Why People Use It

In traditional preparation, Pao Jiang is valued as a warming root, the kind used in decoctions and formulas meant to support the body's normal internal warmth and circulation. It is not a snack. It is a raw herb, sold as dried root pieces, meant to be simmered into tea or incorporated into a formula the way it has been for a very long time. Nobody hands you Pao Jiang and says "enjoy the crunch." You cook with it.

  • Supports healthy digestive comfort as part of a traditional herbal routine
  • Promotes a natural warming sensation often associated with ginger preparations
  • Supports healthy circulation when used as directed in traditional decoctions
  • Unsulfured processing, no added color, no chemical shortcuts

Who Made It

MayWay has been sourcing and preparing traditional Chinese herbs under the Plum Flower name for decades, which in supplement years is basically forever. They are not chasing trends. They are just making sure the root you get looks and behaves the way the root is supposed to look and behave, unsulfured, unbothered, and ready for the pot.

If you already work with traditional herbal decoctions, you know what to do with this. If you don't, ask someone who does before you start simmering roots on your stove like a small, focused wizard.
