NOW Foods Virgin Coconut Oil, 20 fl oz

Coconut oil is solid at room temperature and liquid when it's warm, which means it's basically the only food that has a mood. This is virgin coconut oil, cold pressed from fresh coconut meat, which sounds fancy until you remember that "cold pressed" just means nobody heated it up. That's it. That's the whole secret. Sometimes the fancy version of a thing is just the version where they left it alone.

NOW Foods keeps this one unrefined, so it still smells and tastes like coconut, not like the inside of a plastic bottle that used to have coconut near it. You can cook with it, bake with it, melt it into a smoothie, or use it on your skin and hair, because apparently one jar is allowed to have a day job and a side hustle. It naturally contains medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), which the body processes differently than a lot of other fats, and it supports healthy energy levels as part of a normal diet.

  • Cold pressed, virgin, unrefined coconut oil with no added chemicals or solvents
  • Contains naturally occurring MCTs that support healthy energy metabolism
  • Solid below 76°F and liquid above it, so don't panic, it's not broken, it's just cold
  • Suitable for cooking, baking, or as a topical moisturizer for skin and hair
  • Non-GMO and packaged in a 20 fl oz glass jar

How People Actually Use It

Some people cook eggs in it. Some people put a spoonful in their coffee and call it a "ritual." Some people rub it on their elbows like the elbows filed a complaint. All of those are fine. It's shelf stable, doesn't need refrigeration, and holds up fine to normal cooking heat, which is more than I can say for most things I own.

This jar doesn't multitask by accident. It's just fat, and fat, it turns out, is useful in a lot of places at once. NOW Foods has been making supplements and natural food products since 1968, which is longer than most of us have been paying attention to what's actually in the jar. This one's short list: coconut. That's the ingredient. Singular. Refreshing, honestly.

Use it in the kitchen, use it on your skin, use it as a general contribution to daily wellness. Just don't leave the lid off in a warm room and act surprised when it turns into a liquid. It's not a trick. It's just coconut oil, being coconut oil, on schedule.
