Plum Flower Wu Bei Zi, unsulfured
Plum Flower Wu Bei Zi, unsulfured is the dried Chinese sumac gall nut (Melaphis chinensis), a traditional botanical kept without the sulfur step.
Start with the words gall nut, because that's what this actually is. (It isn't a nut. It's a gall, the lump a plant grows when an insect moves in and the plant decides to wall the situation off. So the tree built a little room around a bug, and the tradition came along later and named it a nut. The plant was just doing damage control. We're the ones who put it on a label.) It's a traditional botanical that supports the body the everyday way, prepared the way this herb has been used for a long time.
The word unsulfured is the other one earning its keep here. (Most dried herbs get a sulfur treatment so the color stays put and the bugs stay away. This one skips it. Which is a little funny, because the thing started as a bug's house in the first place. Anyway. The label isn't naming something added. It's naming a step left out. A nothing, listed proudly.) Used the traditional way, Wu Bei Zi turns up in classic formulas, with properties the tradition calls sour, salty, and cold.
And it's the dried gall here, kept in its own shape. (It did its forming on the branch, got picked and dried, and now it sits in the bag with weight to it, patient about waiting on a measure.) It promotes everyday wellness the unhurried way, the way the tradition has always used it.

How to Work It Into Your Routine
Use it the way the tradition uses it, measured and prepared according to the guidance you already trust, usually as part of a larger formula rather than on its own. That's the idea. (The dried gall does nothing in the bag, which is the part people forget. The bag can't measure itself. The preparing was always the work, not the owning. Wu Bei Zi sitting in a cupboard is just Wu Bei Zi sitting in a cupboard, patient about it.)
It pairs naturally with the rest of a herbal routine you already keep, the formulas and the rest and the ordinary care a body responds to. (The herb supports the body the traditional way, but it can't portion itself out, sealed up as it is. The drying is done and the sulfur was skipped on purpose, the rest is on you, and there's 500 grams of dried gall in there, waiting on the hand that opens it. They took a lump a tree built around a bug, named it a nut, and dried it, and this is that, kept whole and minus the sulfur.) Store it somewhere cool and dry, sealed against the air, since dried herbs keep better when the air stays out. For a traditional herb kept the unsulfured way, that's a fair trade.
