Qing Shu Yi Qi Tang: A Traditional Granule Blend Built for the Dog Days of Summer
The name translates roughly to "clear summer heat, boost the qi," which is either the most literal supplement name I've ever seen or someone in ancient China really wanted to make sure nobody was confused about what this was for. Either way, it checks out. This is a traditional granule formula built around Astragalus and Atractylodes, two herbs that have been paired together in Chinese herbal medicine for a very long time, presumably because someone noticed that hot weather makes you feel like a candle left too close to a window and decided to do something about the general experience of it.
Sun Ten makes these granules using a concentrated extraction process, so instead of boiling a pot of herbs on your stove for forty-five minutes like you're running a small pharmacy out of your kitchen, you just mix the granules with warm water and you're done. It's traditional Chinese medicine, but for people whose stove is mostly decorative.
What It's Formulated to Support
- Supports healthy energy levels, especially when the weather is doing its worst
- Promotes fluid balance and helps maintain a normal sense of hydration comfort
- Supports digestive comfort during periods of heat-related fatigue
- Contributes to a general sense of vitality and physical stamina
- Part of a formula with roots in traditional Chinese herbal practice, still used today
Astragalus shows up in a lot of qi-tonifying formulas because it's traditionally associated with supporting healthy energy and normal immune system function. Atractylodes gets paired with it because it traditionally supports digestive comfort and helps the body handle dampness, which in herbal terms basically means "you feel heavy and slow and would like to not." Together they're meant to work as a team, the way peanut butter needs jelly, or the way my belt needs belt loops just to stay in the game at all.
How to Use It
Mix the granules into warm water and drink as directed on the label. That's the whole ritual. No stovetop, no straining herbs through cheesecloth, no small kitchen fire. Just water, granules, and a formula that's been getting used long before anyone had the option to just take a pill instead.
